Disappointing Turnout at West Augustine Covid-19 Vaccination Event

Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic at New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry

This afternoon several of West Augustine's community groups and faith leaders came together to host a Covid-19 vaccination clinic in partnership with Flagler Health Plus at New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry.

With local media outreach and a strong social-media campaign, the organizers were hoping to get at least 50 people vaccinated, but unfortunately the turn out was disappointing, and less than 20 people showed up to get their Covid-19 vaccines.

Flagler Health Plus had brought out the Plus Mobile to store the vaccinations at the right temperature, but the vaccinations were provided outside underneath a canopy.

United Way St. Johns had donated gift bags, and the first 9 people getting their Covid-19 vaccination received a Publix gift card donated by Publix.

The rest of the people getting their Covid-19 vaccinations received free food from West Augustine's newest food place, Sho'Nuff Smokin Good BBQ on West King Street.

When asked about, why he had agreed to give away free food to those getting their vaccinations, owner Willie Ray Daniels from Sho'Nuff Smokin Good BBQ said, "my motto is to come back to give back." Daniels left St. Augustine to go into the military in 1979, and he just recently returned to St. Augustine after having been gone for more than 40 years." The West Augustine Covid-19 Vaccination event at New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry was organized by The Nehemiah Project of St. Johns, The West Augustine C.R.AFlagler Health Plus, and Compassionate St. Augustine in partnership with other faith-based and veterans groups from the community.

Despite a lower than expected turnout, the event showed how West Augustine community groups, partners and churches can come together to organize for the good of the community.
